AutoCad Assessment: Sample Questions | Bryq
Beginner
Intermediate
Advanced
These are three sample questions from Bryq’s AutoCAD assessment, a technical test for hiring CAD drafters, CAD technicians and design engineers. The full assessment covers three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced, from core 2D drafting and modification commands to layer and drawing management and 3D modeling. Each question is multiple choice, with one correct answer out of four options.
Beginner
Question
What is the main difference between model space and paper space (layouts) in AutoCAD?
Select your answer
Model space is where you draw at full scale, and paper space is where you set up sheets for printing.
Model space is for 3D work, and paper space is for 2D work.
Paper space stores backup copies of the drawing.
Model space becomes read-only once a layout is created.
WHY IS THIS THE CORRECT ANSWER
Objects are drawn at real-world size in model space. Layouts in paper space hold the title block and scaled viewports onto that model, ready for printing. Both 2D and 3D drawing happen in model space.
Intermediate
Question
In a large drawing, you want the objects on one layer to stay hidden and be excluded from regeneration to improve performance. Which layer setting should you use?
Select your answer
Freeze the layer.
Turn the layer off.
Lock the layer.
Set the layer to non-plotting.
WHY IS THIS THE CORRECT ANSWER
Freezing a layer hides its objects and also excludes them from regeneration, which speeds up work in large drawings. Turning a layer off only hides it, while AutoCAD still processes it. A locked layer stays visible but can’t be edited, and a non-plotting layer stays on screen but doesn’t print.

Question
Which 3D command creates a solid by moving a 2D profile along a curved path, such as for a pipe run or handrail?
Select your answer
SWEEP
REVOLVE
LOFT
PRESSPULL
WHY IS THIS THE CORRECT ANSWER
SWEEP moves a 2D profile, such as a circle, along a path and keeps it perpendicular to the path the whole way, which suits pipes and handrails. REVOLVE spins a profile around an axis, LOFT blends between several cross-sections, and PRESSPULL extrudes a bounded area in a straight line.
