These are three sample questions from Bryq’s Microsoft Power BI assessment, a technical test for hiring data analysts, BI analysts and reporting specialists. The full assessment covers three levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced, from core report building to data modeling and DAX calculations. Each question is multiple choice, with one correct answer out of four options.

Question
What does a card visual display in a Power BI report?
Select your answer
A single key value, such as total sales.
A trend in values over time.
Data plotted by geographic location.
A table of individual rows of data.
WHY IS THIS THE CORRECT ANSWER
A card shows one prominent number, such as total revenue or order count, which makes it ideal for headline figures at the top of a report. Trends over time suit line charts, and detailed rows belong in a table or matrix visual.

Question
A report has a Sales table and a Date table, but a chart of sales by month shows the same total for every month. What is the most likely cause?
Select your answer
The month field comes from a table with no active relationship to the Sales table.
The chart uses a measure instead of a calculated column.
The data hasn’t been refreshed since the last import.
The chart’s sort order is set to descending.
WHY IS THIS THE CORRECT ANSWER
When a field on a chart’s axis can’t filter the table holding the values, every category shows the grand total, because no filter reaches the sales data. Creating or activating the relationship between the Date and Sales tables lets each month filter its own sales.

Question
A measure needs to return total sales for all regions, ignoring any Region slicer selection, so it can be used to calculate each region’s percentage of the total. Which DAX expression is correct?
Select your answer
CALCULATE([Total Sales], ALL(Region))
SUMX(VALUES(Region[Region]), [Total Sales])
CALCULATE([Total Sales], VALUES(Region[Region]))
SUM(Sales[Amount])
WHY IS THIS THE CORRECT ANSWER
CALCULATE changes the filter context, and ALL(Region) removes any filters on the Region table, so the measure returns the total across every region regardless of slicer selections. The other expressions keep the slicer’s filter in place, so they would return only the selected regions.
